Happy happy Friday, make good choices.

I had a weird dream the other night.  I was driving on what seemed to be a rainy dark freeway in San Francisco or Columbus Ohio…dreams are weird.  The cars were going fast and furious, not unlike a particular movie of the same name.  From a very short on-ramp a small red car jumped into traffic where cars were already following far to close for my comfort.  As I eased off of the gas, a car spun out and a chain reaction of crashing started.  I knew there was no avoiding the crash, so I remember calming myself, taking my hands off of the steering wheel and waited for the impact and noise…which never came.  I awoke from this dream puzzled and marveled at how my mind was able to build such an intricate scene and take me out of it as quickly.

Another weird dream I had this week was about a guy I knew  while in college.  He was sort of a felonious fellow who thought nothing of stealing master keys to buildings and sneaking in and out at his whim.  I went to a strict fundamentalist college where stuff like this was frowned upon…oddly enough I left behind any dealings with the church and he went on to be a minister…hmmm.  In my dream he was at my house and was trying to take a look at my laptop.  I was trying to keep him away from it, but he had somehow gotten a hold of it.  When I got it back from him and looked at the screen, it was a DOS prompt screen..or so I thought.  When in actuality it was a nuclear missile launch screen.  It dawned on me that he was some sort of weird scientist spy dude and I was an unwitting partner in his scheme to blow up Russia.  Out of now where a giant thug of a man appears, me thinks it’s college dudes body guard.  Giant thug is wearing white coveralls with a hand painted “S” across the front.  I knew it was an “S”  but I couldn’t read it because his zipper on the coveralls was open.  I remember yelling at them to stop what they are doing.  I looked up at the giant thug who was trying to physically refrain me and I woke up with the memory of me yelling, “Who the fuck are you?”

My third weird dream is about a girl that I’ve known since first grade.  Growing up where I did, that was just about everyone in my school.  We weren’t particularly close friends but I knew her well enough to not have awkward conversations through school and into our adult lives.  I don’t really know what the dream was about, just that she was in it…doing something making herself known to me.  This is vague, but we were “somewhere” doing “something” we were simply interacting.  I don’t know that I’ve had a dream with out a plot before…but then again if there were a plot there might be an extra dose of weird.  I woke up from this dream thinking of her and mentally wishing her well.

The power of suggestion and what our minds process, is quite frankly, amazing.  We have the power to justify ANYTHING, and we often do.  I’m not into dream interpretation.   The way I perceive dreams is that they are random snippets of memory coming to the forefront and mingling to create some little commercial of  oddness.  The interesting thing about dreams to me, are the emotional elements that arise…I felt calm after the car wreck dream, angry about the college associate dream and happy and content after awakening from my dream about my lifelong friend.  I’ve woken up crying from dreams before, but I’ve also woken up laughing out loud from a dream….both equally odd reactions.

I’m quite sure there are dream studies trying to figure it all out…. I’ll save that for someone else and concentrate on getting a good nights sleep.
